The EU-CONEXUS poetry contest invites students and staff to explore the theme ‘Sense of Place,’ with entries due by 31 December 2024.
The contest provides an opportunity for students and staff across the EU-CONEXUS alliance to express their connections to meaningful places through poetry. Participants are encouraged to explore how specific locations resonate emotionally, convey identity, or evoke personal or cultural histories. The contest celebrates cultural diversity by accepting poems in the nine European languages of the EU-CONEXUS universities. However, each poem must also include an English translation to reach a wider audience.
“Sense of Place” refers to the emotional attachment and meaning people associate with particular locations, shaped by personal experiences and cultural significance. What does a sense of place mean to you? Do you feel an emotional connection or bond with a specific place, area, or location? Perhaps it’s a particular community, activity, or even a special time of year. Whether through belonging to a feeling, a place, or a community, the EU-CONEXUS poetry contest encourages you to express this connection in your own way.Submissions will be evaluated based on originality, relevance to the theme, literary quality, and emotional impact. Each poem will first be reviewed by a national jury, with finalists advancing to the EU-CONEXUS central jury. This central jury will select the top three winners, each of whom will receive a €250 prize. Winning poems will be published across the EU-CONEXUS network.
The deadline for submissions is 31 December, 2024. Detailed guidelines are available on the EU-CONEXUS website, tap here. This contest offers a unique platform to reflect on how location and memory intersect, strengthening both individual expression and shared European identity.
